In my opinion, to use a Embedded Single Board Computer like the US$50 "GESBC-9260S" (http://[ausgeblendet]/products.html) is the best decision for your purposes because the obvious advantages in terms of cost, size, stability and reliability. A device like the "GESBC-9260S" is capable of make the same Job of a PC in terms of data recording, Database access and decisions taking. All this kind of devices are plenty of digital I/O and are much more stable and reliable than a PC and I'm an expert in this kind of devices. If you are thinking in use a PC. Please THINK IT AGAIN. If you want to develop an Internet client/server system with centralized SQL database, remote control/settings of the "FACE ID", Internet Reports, Internet Alarms and SMS Alarms, I have lots of experience in all this stuff.
